St. Petersburg Open is getting onto the ring
"St. Petersburg Open. Sports marketing and Management" - a company which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, has become an organizer of the International women boxing tournament, which will take place in St. Petersburg on the Zimniy stadium July 8 -11. Natalia Karpovich who is the president of Women Boxing Development Fund and MP of the Russian Federation Duma came to St. Petersburg Open with an offer to hold an international tournament. Experience in such sports as tennis, fencing, beach volleyball, motor trial, handball, sailing and billiards played a crucial role in making a final decision when choosing an organizer. Box became eight sport, which will be organized by St. Petersburg Open.
Over 100 athletes from 11 countries already confirmed their participation in this tournament. They will be fighting for gold, silver and bronze medals in 11 different weight categories.
This year the tournament has a great importance for the future development of the sport and organizers already feel the weight of responsibility on their shoulders. Members of International Olympic committee will be visiting St. Petersburg during the tournament. The tournament in St. Petersburg will be the last major event before the IOC commission will meet for the final decision on whether to include women boxing into Olympic Games 2012, which will take place in London. It is also planned to host a meeting of the women's committee of AIBA (International Association of Amateur Boxers)
